The soft yellow-brown Thorncombe Sands contain indurated masses of sandstone, known as doggers.

  These sands are best viewed between Doghouse Hill, Thorncombe Beacon and Eype Mouth.

Zones, sub-zones and fossils

Main zone is Amaltheus margaritatus changing to Pleuroceras spinatum. Sub zone is Amaltheus gibbosus (margaritatus)
