Following a season of stormy weather, the base of Stonebarrow Hill is covered by landslip material, all of which is washed by the high tides. The sand on the beach has been replaced by shingle. [Oct 2004]

The western side of Stonebarrow Hill drops down to the River Char via a feature called Evan's Cliff. This is where 'Mary' was found. The photo [Oct 2004] shows extensive landslip activity following heavy rain and high spring tides.

Back from the cliff faces because of large landslips, the exposed sandy Cretaceous capping of Stonebarrow Hill glows in the sunlight. The path from Charmouth to the summit, is often closed due to landslips.

Before the cliff path was closed, it was possible to get to the edge of the landslip 'basin' beneath the Cretaceous capping of Stonebarrow Hill. As the landslips were many years ago, the scars left by the rotational slides, have since become overgrown with shrubs and small trees.
