Charmouth

The River Char, taken from the bridge that provides access to the beach under Stonebarrow Hill.

An all to common sight these days. Landslip activity makes the cliff top footpaths unsafe, and, in some cases, removes them completely.

The cliff top paths to both the west and east out of Charmouth are now closed. [Oct 2004]

And this is the reason for the path closures. Even set back from the sea, and behind concrete coastal defenses, the cliff face erodes and collapses.

As the tide ebbs to a low spring, a large amount of beach is revealed to the east of Charmouth. Most of the beach is covered in fine shingle. [Oct 2004]

And to the east, the coastal cliff top path from Charmouth to Stonebarrow Hill is also eroding away.
