Although most of the Black Ven Marl and Belemnite Mark bed scan be seen on Black Ven, they are best studied along the cliffs at Stonebarrow Hill.

The Black Ven landslips look quite stable, but any rain and the surface becomes very dangerous; put a foot wrong and you can easily disappear into several feet of mud. TAKE CARE!

The 'suumit' of Black Ven as seen across the River Char valley, from a vantage point on the cliff top path up towards Stonebarrow Hill.

From the top of Black Ven the view to the east opens up, showing Stonebarrow Hill and the higher Golden Cap. In the far distance the Isle of Portland appears out of the sea haze.

Black Ven reaches sea level at a feature known as The Spittles. It is between these boulders that small pyrite ammonites can be found.

At very low spring tides, the boulder arc remains of earlier landslips on Black Ven are exposed.
