Bantam (Capsicum annuum var. fasciculatum). Dwarf cultivar. Plant growth habit is dwarf, the stem length before branching is around 50 mm, the leaves are medium to long and the length/width ratio is 2.8, the flowering is fasciculate type. The flower colour is white and they start to appear continually after 5-6 weeks. The fruit is erect and the size is smallish at 4 cm long and length/diameter ratio is 1.8 and mature after 8-9 weeks. Bell Pepper Surely the most popular world-wide and mildest member of the Capsicum family. It is also called Capsicum pepper, sweet pepper, in Spain Pimiento and in India Simla Mirch, and is also known by its colour, e.g.: red pepper, green pepper etc. They vary in shape from spherical to elongated and in size from about 5 cm in diameter (miniature) to 15 cm long by 7.5 cm wide. Heat level is 0. A close relative to the bell pepper is the Hungarian Sweet Pepper.

Better Belle Very blocky, thick-walled 4-1/2 inches by 3-1/2 inches. Four-lobed green pods turn red when ripe. Disease resistant.

Bi-Bell (Capsicum baccatum). Matures to orange-red. Cold resistant. Continuous heavy bearer. Tall growing bush, up to 2m tall x 1m wide The outer flesh of the pod has no heat, however the pod is full of a very hot placenta. Very nice sweet crisp capsicum flavour. It is a self seeding, semi deciduous, perennial in a warm climate, growing almost 2m. Unusual bell/ joker's hat shaped pod.

Bido (Capsicum chinense Jacq.) From Carmen Florida, small village on right bank of Rio Beni, 5km upriver from Rurrenabaque, Beni Department, Ballvian Province in Brazil. Local name in Tacana dialect. Shrub to 1.5m tall. Fruits green, then red, 5cm long, somewhat ribbed, irregularly shaped, acuminate near stigma scar. Seeds white.

Billy Goat A cherry size pepper with Habanero type heat. 1-1-1/2 inches thick fleshed fruits mature to dark red; pungent cherry aroma.
© Graeme CaseltonBird These are found all over Africa, where they are also called Birds Eye, Congo, Mombassa, Pequin, Uganda and Zanzibar chiles. They are very small conical chiles ranging from 1-1.6 cm long. They grow wild or semi-wild and are bright scarlet red. Their colour attracts mynah and other birds who eat them, with no apparent discomfort, distributing their seeds via their droppings. Some grow wrinkled, some smooth. (Capsicum annuum). Heat level is 8-9.

Boldog Hungarian Spice Comes from a small but well-known spice pepper district northeast of Budapest around the towns of Boldog and Cece. This early variety will mature almost anywhere. The fruits are 1 1/2 inches wide and about 7 inches long. A genuine Hungarian Paprika.

Bonda Man Jacques A variety from the French Antilles, especially Martinique.

Bonita Green or deep red, large and slightly elongated bell with thick walls. Continuous set and production yields an abundance of heavy quality fruit from set to set. Large dark green leaves provide protective cover for the fruit, keeping the percentage of usable fruit high even under pressure from the sun. The plant grows strong and can be used for either ground or stake production.
Bonney This variety is thought to be an eastern Caribbean version of the Scotch Bonnet but you rarely see a yellow fruit, they mature to red. Also known as 'Barbados. It is an extremely hot C. chinense and the pods measured 2" long by 1 1/4" wide.

Hillsborough County School DistrictsBradley's Bahamian From the island of Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Grows as a bush about 2 feet tall by 3.5 feet wide. The pods range from 1 to 2 inches long and about 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in diameter and mature to orange or, in a longer season, to red. The pepper is wrinkled with pleats by the sepals. (Capsicum frutescens).
Brazilian Tiny red Pimenta that is thin skinned and very suitable for drying. Probably another name for the Malagueta variety.
Brazilian Aji See Dedo de Moca.
Brazilian Malagueta Light green pepper with searing heat. Grows to 1 inch long. From Brazil.
Brazilian Rainbow A hot variety growing to 1 inch long by 1/2 inch wide. Has 'Piquin type' fruits that are borne erect and mature from purple to yellow to orange to red. A highly ornamental variety.

Buist's Yellow Cayenne Conforms to the description of Victorian era Buist's catalogue. Popular among nineteenth century gardeners, dating back to 1840's or 50's, probably came in with the Demerara Sugar trade. This is a beautiful, yellow, tasty, good yielding, mildly hot pepper.
Bujan Good size sweet peppers, excellent taste, conical to blocky shaped, with large and reasonably early yields, produced on short plants. Fruit is yellow and ripens red.
Bulgarian Carrot The native real name is "Shipkas," but their adoptive name best describes these 3 1/2 inch bright, fluorescent orange peppers. Carrot chiles are quite hot but with a fruitiness to their pungency. Bulgarian Carrot chile plants are just 18 inches tall and the bright thin-walled chiles grow in clusters close to the main stems protecting them from sunburn. 65 days. (Capsicum annuum).
